Indian Railways will allow the customers or passengers to cancel their train ticket if they don’t want to travel before & after chart preparations. So in some case you don’t want to travel then you have a chance to cancel your ticket by logging into your IRCTC account from which the ticket was booked.
There are two ways to cancel the train ticket one is from the official website and the other is from IRCTC Rail Connect App. We are going to see both in this guide.
Step By Step Guide To Cancel Train Ticket From IRCTC Website
Step 1: First of all Login to your IRCTC account to cancel your ticket.
Step 2: Click on My Account located at the top right corner.
Step 3: After that Click on My Transactions and then click on Booked Ticket History. This will give you all ticket booked from IRCTC website as well as the IRCTC official app.
Step 4: Select the ticket which you want to cancel.
Step 5: After selecting the ticket at the bottom you will see Cancel. Tap on it to cancel your train ticket. You will be charged some cancellation charges.
Step 6: Now you have an option that you can cancel all passenger ticket or you can also cancel one passenger ticket from that ticket. It is up to you.
Step 7: Now a screen will come for confirmation whether you want to cancel or not. Tap on ok to cancel the ticket.
Step 8: Your ticket is successfully canceled. You can also print the canceled ticket for further use.
Step By Step Guide To Cancel Train Ticket From IRCTC App
Step 1: Firstly you all have a valid User Id and Password of IRCTC, if not then create IRCTC account.
Step 2: Launch your IRCTC app and tap on Train Ticket.
Step 3: After that enter your PIN to login into your IRCTC applications.
Step 4: Now you can see that there are various options tap on My Bookings among the option.
Step 5: At this step, you have to select the ticket which you want to cancel from the various booked tickets.
Step 6: After selecting the ticket which you want to cancel tap on three dots at the top right corner of your ticket.
Step 7: Now you will see there are various options comes tap on Cancel Ticket to cancel your ticket.
Step 8: Now you have an option that you can cancel all passenger ticket or you can also cancel one passenger ticket from that ticket. Here I am selecting only one ticket out of two passenger list.
Step 9: Now at this step, you have to tap on confirm to cancel your selected ticket.

How can I get a refund from IRCTC when I cancel my e-ticket?
You don’t need to do anything to get your refund. Simply cancel your ticket by the above-described steps and you will get the refund of your ticket on the same bank account from which you have made the payment for booking your train ticket.
Normally the banks take time to process the refund in,
- For Net- Banking/Wallets/Cash Cards transaction: 3-4 business days.
- For Credit Card/Debit Card transaction: 6-7 business days.
But before canceling your train ticket you must be aware of the ticket cancellation charges of IRCTC.
Are fully waitlisted e-ticket automatically canceled booked via Paytm?
Yes, Waiting list e-ticket will be canceled after chart preparations. Whether it is booked through IRCTC or from any other website. It totally depends on where you booked your ticket. There are two ways of ticket booking
- From Counter: If you booked your ticket from Railway Counters and it has a waiting list then you will be able to travel with that Waiting List ticket.
- From Online (IRCTC): If you booked your ticket from Online websites (IRCTC) or IRCTC App and your ticket has a waiting list then it will be automatically canceled by the IRCTC after chart preparations and you will not be able to travel with that Waiting List ticket.
